Our Mission:
To reach the boating community for Christ, empower believers to grow deeper in their faith and equip them to live purpose-driven lives, and to reach the lost with the message of hope and salvation, both on the water and beyond.
Spring break 2024, our family had the incredible opportunity to spend a week aboard “More Beyond,” an Island Packet 31, thanks to the generosity of Maritime Ministries. We were eager to experience what life might be like as we pursue full-time ministry on the water, reaching the boating community.
Though the weather wasn’t exactly cooperative—cold and windy conditions limited our sailing to just two outings—it was still a week of growth, learning, and fellowship.
From the very first night, our girls were captivated by life aboard the sailboat. As we settled in, they excitedly declared, “I want to live on a boat like this!” The excitement in their voices was palpable as they marveled at the small, cozy living space, the sway of the boat, and the constant reminder of the water surrounding us.
Though it was a new environment, living in a small space wasn’t a huge adjustment for us. With more than three years living in our camper, we’re no strangers to compact living and off-grid appliances. The tight quarters and daily routines felt familiar, making the transition much smoother than we anticipated.
Of course, sailing is a completely different ballgame. Cold temperatures and unpredictable winds tested our sailing knowledge and skills. There were moments when we found ourselves battling against the elements, but we quickly learned to adapt. With each sail, we gained new experience and better understood how to manage the boat in different conditions.
While we would have loved to sail more, the limited time on the water gave us an opportunity to bond with the Maritime Ministries team. Fellowship and shared meals aboard the boat allowed us to deepen our connections and gain insight into the unique challenges and joys of full-time ministry on the water.
This week wasn’t just about sailing; it was about creating memories and seeing our calling come to life. We gained so much more than just sailing experience. We saw the importance of community, resilience in the face of challenges, and the beauty of trusting God on the water. The wind may have tested us, but it also provided unforgettable moments of triumph and joy.
As we continue to feel called to full-time ministry on the water, this week aboard “More Beyond” has given us a taste of what life could be like. We’re more inspired than ever to keep pursuing the calling, knowing that the journey ahead will be full of adventure, growth, and God’s provision.
